Reaction from Thames folk to the proposal for a minibus public transport service for Thames Township has been overwhelmingly positive. An online petition has already attracted nearly 200 signatures, with some heartfelt comments about why the service is so badly needed. If you haven’t done so already, please get online and add your signature now.
A poll on Facebook has attracted overwhelming positive support. Please complete the poll also.
The presentation given to the Thames Community Board was well received by both the politicians and the staff present, and I am hopeful that in the next month or so financial provision can be made in the Annual Plan for the proposed six-month trial service.
The proposal has also received excellent local media coverage, including an interview on Coromandel FM and a front page story in the Hauraki Herald. And more positive media coverage on 10 February.
However it is important to keep the strong message of support for the trial in front of the Mayor Sandra Goudie, the Thames District Councillors, and Thames Community Board members. The Thames Coromandel District Council website has the email addresses for the Mayor and our representatives, so why not drop some or all or some of them a quick message by email?
Apart from the online petition there is a printed version circulating around the town with various businesses, organisations and workplaces. A printable copy of the petition is available, so please download this, print it out, and get your and friends/family/neighbours to sign it. Also if you know of any businesses are other places who might take a copy for display on the front counter etc, then please print out some copies for them.
I’ve had several invitations to speak to local clubs community groups, but if you know of any groups which might be interested please get in touch.
